Boys and girls, I’ve got a big announcement to make. I’ve fallen in love. Yes, ol Meesh Beezy is officially off the market. I’ve fallen head over heels, for a certain leather jacket.
What’s goin’ on everyone! I’ve missed you guys! I hope that you all are doing as well as possible during these unfortunate times that we find ourselves in. I’ve been so busy uploading content to other mediums such as IGTV and YouTube, that I haven’t been able to give the ol’ fingers a good stretch. But I did want to make sure that my brief hiatus was interrupted by an absolute BOMB of an article! This article being my straight to hell leather jacket review!
This has been one of my most anticipated purchases in the history of my existence. I have been searching high and low for a brown leather motorcycle jacket for what feels like an ETERNITY! Now sure, I’ve come across a couple that fit the description aesthetically but never price wise.
Until now.
If you haven’t heard of this magical company before, then I would like to introduce you to Straight To Hell Apparel. Specifically, their brown washed commando leather jacket. In this post, I’m going to give you my honest opinion on this jacket after owning it for about a month. I’ll be displaying a simple outfit for it as well throughout the post. Hopefully, by the end you’ll have a clear idea of whether this is a jacket for you or not.
I’m going to break things down as thoroughly as I can into the pros and cons and wrap things up at the end with a little conclusion. Let’s get into it.
1st Pro: Smell
Yes, that is a weird pro I get it. But trust me on this one. Everybody knows that senses play a huge role in how we interact with things baby! Even clothes! And it’s smell is no different. If you’ve watched my unboxing video then you’re aware that I smelled the intoxicating scent of leather through the dust bag itself, and if you didn’t watch that unboxing video, then stop what you’re doing and click here now! I was able to inhale wafts of its leather aroma before even laying my eyes on the thing! And then, for about 2-3 weeks, my room had a slight leather perfume to it! They should really bottle that stuff and sell it! To this day, I can smell the rich leather scent every time that I unzip that dust bag.
2nd Pro: Fit
Now I guess we can cover the “normal” aspects of the jacket that I found to be a plus. The fit is exceptional. Right off the bat I could tell that I had a winner. It drapes over my body with a solid heft to it, yet hugs the best parts in a flattering manner! It truly resembles putting on a suit of armor because of the weight that it has without feeling overbearing. Torso? Slim fit. Sleeve length? Stops right at the end of my wrist. Zipper issues? Never heard of them.
The great thing about purchasing from this company, is that they have a meticulous sizing guide, that not only discuss the measurements of your body that work best with the size of the jacket, but they also give descriptions of how you want to wear the jacket and how it relates to the sizing. I opted for a size 40, and I chose that because the guide suggested that I size up if I’m trying to layer this jacket. Now I don’t know about you, but that’s the best damn sizing advice that I’ve seen from a non-bespoke online retailer. I couldn’t be happier with the fit of this jacket. They nailed everything and I highly suggest reading the sizing guide. It’s super helpful.
3rd Pro: Inner Lining
Just because a jacket fits well doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll be comfortable. Material is just as important on the inside. as it is on the outside. Well, I’m happy to say that the Commando checks inside comfort off of its list as well. The entire torso portion of the jacket is covered with a quilted liner. This allows ease of movement getting in and out of the jacket, as well as a smooth feeling against your body. The arms are wisely devoid of the quilted lining, so that movement isn’t restricted and so that the lining won’t bunch up and cause discomfort. I can wear this jacket all day and not get annoyed. Hell, I get annoyed when I actually have to take it off.
4th Pro: Attention to detail.
So this point not only covers features that are on the jacket itself but also how the jacket is presented. Straight To Hell really leans into the world of being a rockstar. And they do not shy away from that with their jacket. Littered throughout, are these neat little metal ball and chain, well, things. I at least call them ball and chain. They more so resemble a mace if I had to describe them. They can be found on both forearm zippers, the stomach pockets, and the left breast pocket. The inside pocket has a standard zipper, but it came attached with a bottle opener. Once again, attention to detail.
The item itself came enclosed in a giant dust bag that reads the name of the company, the style of jacket, the size, fit, color, and the company’s web URL, in bold white font. When I removed it from the box, I felt like I was holding something special. And as a little cherry on top, I also received a thick wooden hanger (even if part of it was broken) with Straight To Hell engraved on both sides. These extra details allow your consumer to feel appreciated and to feel as if they spent their money wisely.
5th Pro: The price
Ok, time for the big one. This is probably the golden question that everyone’s been wanting to know the answer to since I brought this thing up in the first place. As stated earlier, I’ve never been able to find a motorcycle jacket of this quality in this style for this price point. I’ve seen jackets in the 600 to 800 dollar range. If not that, then I’ve seen versions in the 50 to 100 dollar range. Those are the two extreme ends of a spectrum. This jacket, however, clocked in at 400 dollars.
But hear me out before you close out of this tab and call me a bleep hole. This ain’t no jacket that I’m interested in replacing anytime soon. This is a jacket that I plan to last me a lifetime. With any high-quality leather ANYTHING; whether it’s a wallet, a bag, a pair of shoes, or in this case a jacket, you are going to have to pay some upper-tier prices. But after doing my research and comparing this price point along with the specifications to other brands, not only did this hit a sweet spot that didn’t make me want to run for the hills in terror, but it also didn’t make me feel like I was buying a knock off.
And if that wasn’t enough, Straight To Hell Apparel also supports Afterpay. You can pay this jacket off in 4 equal installments of 100 dollars every two weeks. That’s what I did. It helped to ease the burden of pulling the trigger on a 400 dollar price tag. The cost per wear for a particular garment is the total cost of the item divided by the number of wears that you get out of it. The cost per wear for higher quality goods is always better than that of cheap clothing because they last way longer. My dad always brags to me about how he has shoes that are older than me (FYI they are in great condition). This is something that should easily last me at least 20-30 years (if I don’t treat it like a maniac) and something that I plan on wearing regularly throughout all 4 seasons.
6th Pro: The leather
I guess it’s pretty fitting that I saved the best for last right? Or would you rather I call it the most obvious for last? I mean, this is the part that literally makes the jacket what it is. Now, in no way, shape, or form do I consider myself to be an expert on leather, but I am a person who owns a solid (or in my mother’s words an unhealthy) amount of leather goods. I’ve seen my fair share of leather is what I’m saying. Moving on. In my opinion, this is some damn good leather. Damn. Good……….. Remember how I told you that my room smelled of leather for a month? Yeah, you don’t get that from cheap leather or faux leather. We are talking 2mm full-grain Napa leather baby.
The leather is not stiff. The leather, right off the bat is firm yet pliable. It doesn’t feel as if they shellacked a layer of leather paint on a jacket. This feels more like 100 layers of leather paint. In all seriousness, as you can see down below, yes the washing helps, but the natural discoloration throughout the jacket is present, and you can make out the textures within the leather itself. This adds character to the jacket. This adds quality. Now add this to your wardrobe.
1st Con: Shallow pockets / Uncomfortable zipper track
Now, unfortunately, nothing in this beautiful world of ours is perfect. As much as something may seem perfect, there’s always going to be some variation of a flaw in its design. Now, what separates certain flaws from others is just how much of a deal-breaker it is. In the case of this sweet ass jacket, it is no different.
Now, I personally love to jam my hands into my pockets when it comes to jackets. It’s convenient, comfortable (most of the time) and it can even look a little cool when done right. I also love to jam stuff into my pockets as well, so that I don’t bulk up my pant pockets with wallets and my headphones among other things. But man does this Commando come with some shallow ass pockets. It’s a bit of a challenge to quickly and comfortably get my hands in there, without having the wrist sticking out.
Also while I’m on the topic of the stomach pockets (that’s what I call them, sue me) the zipper track that’s used to close the pockets are very rough and rugged. It’s so bad that I pretty much just opt out of putting my hands into the pockets because I’ve had moments where I’d rub against the track and it’ll leave my skin with white marks. So not only are the pockets shallow, but they’re also a bit of a pain in the ass because the zipper track can be rough on your hands. Weirdly though, on the flip side, the breast pocket is incredibly deep! It’s super easy to slide my entire IPhone XR (with case) in and out! It’s amazing and it boggles my mind how a pocket that’s not nearly as utilized as the stomach pockets are so superior in every way!
2nd Con: The belt clasp
I’m going to keep this one quick because I know that this has been a very long, yet thorough, article. The clasps that run along the waist of the torso might not be the most fastened things on the planet. Now, this isn’t to say that they come undone regularly or anything even close to that. But I have found myself noticing my belt kind of hanging to the side, once or twice and it leaves me a bit puzzled.
I don’t know if I may have sat down in a stupid way or have gotten the belt caught onto something that popped it off, but I don’t remember ever doing stuff like that and yet there it is, just hangin’ around like your friend who doesn’t ever want to go home because his house isn’t as fun as yours. With all that being said, I am happy to say that these two or maybe three cons are very minor issues in my opinion and do not detract from this jackets overall greatness.
Verdict:
Here we are at the end. If you’re still here then I want to say thank you for reading my straight to hell leather jacket review! I believe that I covered as much detail about this jacket as I possibly could. I think it’s safe to say that the pros heavily outweigh the cons here. Overall I think the Commando is the best bang for buck jacket on the market in terms of leather quality, fit, style and price. Does it have its flaws, sure but what doesn’t?
I cannot get enough of this jacket as it has allowed me to unlock another level in my style powers, that I didn’t think was possible to reach! When it comes to leather, I try to strive for high quality and I hope that you will now if you already don’t. Also, I want you to know that this is the brand new Commando in its brown colorway. They have Commando jackets in different colors at cheaper prices than this one. I just happened to purchase it when it first came out. So definitely check out their site, and see what you can find. I’ll link to the jacket down below as always, and while you’re there, be sure to do a little browsing as they have a very wide selection of goods.

Bonus:
As a little tidbit, earlier in the article, I mentioned that I plan to wear this regularly throughout all 4 of the seasons. Now, in my humble opinion, if there’s AC, then this jacket can be worn. I don’t like to restrict it to just serving as a fall and winter garment.
