*Blows the proverbial cobweb off the site*
*cough, cough*
WOW!!!
Just when I thought I couldn’t one-up myself in the field of “neglecting my website,” I somehow managed to do so in truly impressive fashion(pun intended). I genuinely don’t think that I’ve touched this thing in a year! And that’s SAD!
Like you put on your freshest fit, only to get splashed by a car in the street, sad.
I’ll be honest, I am quite disgusted with myself. I said that it wouldn’t get this way—then I wrote my last blog entry, and then proceeded to go full-on toxic mode with the neglect.
This is the “dude, hold my beer” of ignoring one’s website. The triple-cork, 360, axel-split of forgetting to update your blog. The “I just had to call you and remind you that it’s my birthday” version of fog-brain.
*Exhales*
Ok, enough self-deprecating. I’m here for a reason, got dammit. A real reason. A tangible reason.
I’m here, to commence the process of righting my wrongs. I am here…
To write a new footwear review…
(Queue a GIF of a nuke going off)
Yes, you heard me correct! I am going to start writing fashion blogs again! Because I miss it dammit, and I need to get the gears rolling for what should be the biggest year for my content creation! (So far)
(Also I just received a new comment on one of my posts and it brought back that tingly feeling of helping others to dress better) 😀
So! Without further ado! Hows about we get into the review of these Wyndham boots, by Story Et Fall?!?!
*dramatic, orchestral music ensues*
I would first like to thank myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone and continuing to test new ideas. I cannot overstate how integral it is to growing one’s style.
Now, with that bit of narcissistic self-reflection out of the way—so far, I have reached a pinnacle in wardrobe variety, and these boots might just be my pièce de résistance. They’ve allowed me to fully embrace the rock n roll aesthetic—supplying me with another identity to role-play as.
One day I can croon to the lovers at karaoke as the grunge rocker, then afterwards take a spin as the neighborhood skateboarder, or even dress the part of a newly-hired wall street banker. The point is, that over time, your pieces will allow you to masquerade as whatever character you wish to portray for that day.
And the next day.
And the next day.
And the next.
Mind blowing when you think about it.
Now, I hope that little side story will help to impart some imagination and excitement into selecting your style and fleshing out your wardrobe. The idea of being whoever you wish for a moment, is truly a fascinating one I must say. But with that said, let’s dive into these boots, shall we?
Aesthetic
Ok, so the main reason why I decided to buy the Wyndham, from Story Et Fall, in the first place, is because I wanted an alternate option to the “Yves Saint Laurent” harness boot. It’s a very specific look that I believe perfects the silhouette of the harness boot in general.
A smooth slope from the forefoot to the toe, a high-stacked heel for some lift, and a tall shaft. The Story Et Fall: Wyndham absolutely nails every aspect of that shape. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the owner actually wanted to replicate the look of the YSL boot. If that is indeed true, then I’d say mission accomplished, sir.
Depending on your preferences, this boot comes in two versions: one with a harness and one without. The harness version will cost an additional 20 USD and can be removed, allowing you to experiment with different looks. I went for the harnessed version because I believe that is what gives this boot its unique look, plus it allows for dressing up or dressing down the outfit.
Material
The folks over at Story Et Fall provide a full breakdown of the materials that they use. If you would like to take a look for yourself, you can do so here.
I’ll provide a general overview.
The entire Wyndham upper is constructed of French calf, full-grain leather. It features an exposed YKK metal zipper, while the harness strap is made from quality brass hardware. For that YSL aesthetic, it features a 40mm stacked heel that not only looks quite debonair, but provides an extra bit of height for the shorter gentleman who wouldn’t mind an extra boost (both figuratively and literally.
The inside of the boot is also fully lined in cow skin, creating a smooth entryway for your foot. Overall, this boot is crafted with excellent materials that truly shine once you’re able to get your hands on a pair (more on that later).
Construction / Comfort
Wearing this boot came with the steepest learning curve out of any other form of footwear, or maybe even clothing, that I’ve ever worn in my life.
That is not hyperbole.
I felt like a baby giraffe during my first few hours of wear with these bad boys on. I felt as if I were learning to walk again. What is typically the most mundane routine in my life, suddenly became an absolute chore. If you didn’t know any better, you’d think that my feet were causing me loads of distress.
Did I paint a clear enough picture?
Good…
HOWEVER!
To my surprise, it did not take that long for the leather to start breaking in, and pretty effectively at that, I must say. Due to the fact that I’m working with unworn leather, and because the shaft rises to just under my calf, my lower leg became totally constricted and devoid of flexibility. I began to think that this would be the norm and that I’d struggle to walk in these forever.
But that couldn’t have been further from the truth. After a few hours of practice, the leather began to break in, while I adjusted to the walking style of these boots. From there, they actually started to feel normal. Fast forward a week or two later, and they are completely broken in, providing a now stylish and comfortable footwear option.
Since this boot has such a high shaft, the side zipper works perfectly for when I need to slip these on and off.
Also, despite having such a high heel, the forefoot sole actually has a low profile and sits very close to the ground. There have been instances where I felt a large pebble underneath my foot. Not quite uncomfortable, but definitely noticeable.
Now, it could just be my pea-sized brain, but I did struggle quite a bit with which way to put the harness on. plenty of times I would think that I have it figured out, only to discover that I was once again incorrect. But you get used to it after a while.
Overall, I’d say this boot is very well put together, with great materials; it’s just really going to take some getting used to.
Miscellaneous
Let’s start with the cost of the boot. Remember when I mentioned that there are two versions of this boot? Well the version that I purchased, with the removable harness, set me back a cool 360 USD. The non-removable version is priced at 340 USD.
So far, i do believe that the price is justifiable, as the quality of both the materials and construction are fantastic. The boots are now comfortable to wear, and will only improve through more wears. Lastly, as an alternative to the Yves Saint Laurent Wyatt boot, at literally a fraction of the price; it’s worth it.
Now here comes the weird-ish part. Story Et Fall release their products in batches, with there being an order window and release window. So basically, you have to pre-order your model and size before the deadline, and then wait until the release date.
Now, for the other part of this process, the release date is usually several months after the pre-order deadline. For example, I had to order my pair before October 16th, and the shipping date was December 13th. Not only that, but if I had missed this deadline, I would have to wait until June for the next batch.
So all-in-all, don’t expect to just buy a pair of their boots whenever you want. No matter what, you’ll be waiting at least two months before you receive your order.
And with that being said, I believe that I’ve covered all of the basics regarding this boot. Please do use it for your research purposes if you intend on purchasing them. I highly recommend them, but just keep in mind that it’s not your typical purchase.
I really do appreciate each and every one of you who takes the time to read my blogs. It means more than you know. It also feels great to get back to writing blogs, again. As always, I will leave a link to everything down below.
