3 Ways To Style A Denim Jacket

It’s about that time of year again folks. At the expense of sounding like a seasonal greeting card, I’m going to spare everyone the details of what season is rapidly approaching.

Over the last year, I’ve developed my small but expanding collection of denim jackets. If you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel then you’re aware that I wanted to start with a base of a jacket for streetwear, a jacket for casual wear and a jacket for dapper wear. Since my YouTube channel and my website work hand in hand, then it’s only right that I share some extra outfits that I’ve been able to put together for you all. So here’s another look book—down below you can find every outfit and my thought process behind putting them together. Let’s go over 3 ways to style a denim jacket.

1. Cool in blue

So I wanted to start things off these 3 ways to style a denim jacket with perhaps my favorite outfit of the bunch. I had recently picked up these Puma Hi-Top Ralph Sampsons and had been meaning to grab a royal blue fitted cap to go along with it. With these shoes, I was obviously going for a street look, and so the white distressed denim jacket from Smuggler’s Moon was the best choice.

From there, I wanted to add more blue to the outfit, but I didn’t want to select yet another royal blue piece—so I grabbed this amazing sky blue t shirt that I’ve been neglecting for ages, and decided to use that as a nice contrast to the other blues. Now, this outfit already has a ton of blue, so blue jeans was out of the question. I also didn’t want to add a harsh contrast with dark jeans, since the entire outfit is very light and soft in its color approach. That made my khaki denim jeans the perfect choice, and they even pick up on some of the off white in the outsole of the sneaker.

I love this outfit so much because it’s street, and yet the soft colors add for a bit of warmth and easy going energy. This is not only my favorite outfit of the bunch, but it’s one of my favorite outfits that I’ve ever put together. Moving on!

2. Khaki never looked so good

Over the years, khaki and khaki related colors have always gotten a bad rap. They’re all too often associated with lifeless and unexciting. But I’m here to tell you that not only is khaki not boring, but it can be the star of the show for an outfit.

Starting with the khaki denim jacket, we’re going to put together yet another casual outfit. As opposed to my casual outfit in my YouTube video—this one is going to be toned down just a bit. You’re probably wondering how can khaki and casual can combine to make something exciting? Well I’m about to show you.

I wanted to get as much of this color going on in this outfit, so I immediately thought about my color blocked shirt that also had off white and this, almost mineral green color being featured as well. From there, using my cream fedora was a clear cut choice. Now, I originally thought about wearing my wheat Chelsea boots, but I decided that a sneaker would work better for what I was doing. My adidas Samba ties in very well with its different shades of brown, from the khaki-grey toe box to the dark brown sole. The pant selection was instrumental, as the stone washed approach gives the pants a khaki like fade in the thigh area. I also used the green in my necklace to play on the green in the shirt and the outfit is completed. Now let’s move on to the most daring outfit of the bunch.

3. 3 piece not-a-suit

Easily my most daring outfit featured here. I wanted to—once again—go outside of the box and really attempt a look that at first I thought I had no business even thinking about.

Then I assembled the look.

I. Felt. So. Cool. At first I wanted to give things a go with a shirt and tie, but I felt as if that would be too predictable of an approach. I hadn’t worn my turtleneck in a very long time, so I imagined that would be the perfect base to start with. In my eyes, a turtleneck and waistcoat combine for a perfect but not typical look. I treated the upper portion of the outfit like a three piece suit and used the denim jacket as the sport coat. The overall look and out perfectly.

Now, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t include some kind of a hat, and so I threw on my black gambler hat for that extra boost of style. Overall this was the most daring look to try, but it just might be the best out of the bunch. This is a perfect way to live out your suit dreams without actually owning one. It’s a classy, yet rugged and smart look that works even better with a pair of specs tossed in.

That’s it. 3 ways to style a denim jacket. I wanted to continue what I started on over at my YouTube channel to provide you all with even more examples. Fall will be here any day now and this jacket will allow you to make the absolute most of your wardrobe. They come in all kinds of styles and colors, so there’s bound to be something for everyone.
